Ohio Graduation Tests
The sophomore year is an important one for your son. During the spring of the sophomore year all tenth graders are administered the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT). Students must pass all five parts of the test (Reading, Mathematics, Writing, Science, and Social Studies) to receive a diploma. The tests include multiple choice and constructed response questions (short answer and extended response). Your son begins preparing for these tests at the beginning of his freshman year. This preparation continues until the administration of the test in March.
During the week of testing, one test is administered each day. Students have two and one-half hours to complete each test. It is important that during the week of testing students are present each morning for the testing period. Students will need to report to their testing rooms with two #2 pencils. All other materials will be provided. Testing will begin each day at approximately 8:00 a.m. Students who arrive after the testing has started for the day will not allowed to test that day and will be assigned to the make-up test date the following week.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT)?
The Ohio Graduation Test is a key part of Ohio’s education reform to establish an aligned system of standards, assessments (tests) and accountability in Ohio schools. The testing requirements were established by the Ohio General Assembly.
What are the purposes of the tests?
The purposes of the OGT are to:
- Ensure that students who receive a high school diploma demonstrate at least high school levels of achievement.
- Measure the level of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies skills expected of students at the end of the 10th grade.
- Meet federal requirement for high school testing.
What happens if students don’t pass the tests the first time?
For students who do not pass one or more tests on their first attempt multiple opportunities during their junior and senior years will be available. In addition to the spring administrations there is an optional summer administration and required fall administration. LaSalle will provide for a summer testing option during the last week of July.

LaSalle High School Offers a Fall SAT Prep Course
Test preparation is no different than any other skill: The more the student practices, the better the student becomes. Based on this premise, LaSalle is offering a focused, standardized test preparation course. This approach involves diagnostic testing, skills review, in-class problem solving, concepts and strategies, practice test reinforcement, and assessment. The course is open to LaSalle and McAuley senior and junior students who intend to take the October 4th SAT.
The sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30-8:30 P.M., with a practice exam on one Saturday.
The Tuesday dates are August 19, 26, September 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
The Saturday date is September 27, from 9:00 A.M.—1:00 P.M.
Registration is open from now until August 5. The fee for the course (which includes a post-test, evaluations, an instruction/practice binder, and teacher instruction) is $350. Late registrations will be accepted until August 15, with a late fee of $375. Students who previously attended the 2008 Winter/Spring course may attend the teaching sessions without a fee, but they should still register.
Students who are interested in ACT preparation in addition to or instead of the SAT course should talk with Mrs. Moroney. There will be a $260 fee for the instruction and materials related to the ACT. Sessions will be determined by the number of interested students and their available times.
Students and their parents are required to sign a commitment form, which must be submitted before the student is able to participate in the classes. We have found the course to be most beneficial for students who are personally motivated to devote the time required in the sessions.
To register or to inquire, please call 513-741-2306 (LaSalle voice mail, Kathy Moroney) and leave your name, contact phone number(s), and available callback times, or leave the same information at kmoroney@lasallehs.net.
