Congratulations National Merit Semifinalist Timothy Moeller! The names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 53 rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program are being announced today by officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several requirements. About 90% of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will be selected as Merit Scholarship winners, earning the Merit Scholar title. We have received special news that one of our seniors has been named a National Merit Scholarship Corporation Semifinalist. Of all the students throughout the country who took the PSAT test in 2006, he was among the top 16,000 scorers. Juniors, when you take the PSAT on October 17, in addition to preparing you for the SAT, the score on that test determines if you will be amongst the top students nationally to qualify for honor recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Program. So, it is real important that you do your best. Sophomores, when you take the PSAT on that same day next month, you are practicing for your future opportunities. When some of our seniors are recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program, it is a tremendous honor for them and for all of us at La Salle . Please join us in offering our congratulations to our newest National Merit Semifinalist, senior Timothy Moeller.
On Wednesday, August 29, the La Salle communitycame together in support of the Farfsing family and their fight against leukemia. In the biggest mission collection in recent history, we came together to raise over eight thousand dollars for the Rachel Farfsing Medical Fund to help with the family's mounting medical bills. Great job, La Salle! Donations can still be given through La Salle or at any 5/3 Bank.
