Another Exciting Drama Season At La Salle
La Salle Drama is hitting a homerun with its season opener Damn Yankees. This 1955 classic is a musical comedy based on the 1950’s New York Yankee’s domination in Major League Baseball and the wish of Joe Boyd, a long-suffering, middle-aged fan of the Washington Senators baseball team. Will Joe Boyd sell his soul to the devil to get a winning baseball team? La Salle Drama will be pulling out all the stops with fabulous sets, period costumes, excellent singing and dancing. Damn Yankees is now playing off-Broadway in New York and will be playing at LaSalle, November 6th, 7th & 8th at 8:00 p.m. and November 9th at 5:00.
The two Black Box pieces this season are both strong classics sure to both captivate and delight the audience. January 8-11 will bring us the disturbing yet intriguing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The complex characters of Randle McMurphy and Nurse Ratched will come to life psychological drama. For something completely, February 19-22 will be Oscar Wilde’s Importance of Being Earnest. This British classic was originally staged in 1895 and continues to be done today. Wilde’s wit, satire, romance and comedy of errors make this a must see to fight away the winter blues!
The spring musical is a familiar one to fans of composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz of Wicked fame – Pippin. Pippin is filled with spectacular dancing and memorable music in nearly every scene as Pippin returns the University and he is trying to search for the meaning of his life. Pippin’s search with the Players takes him on many twists and turns on his search for true happiness. Will he find it on the battlefield, the temptations of a woman, the power of politics or in the simple pleasures of having a family? Only Pippin will know. Pippin will be playing at LaSalle March 26 – 29.

Note from the Director
Zak Schneider plays a scheming Satan in our fall musical “Damn Yankees”. Some of you might be wondering – why a fall musical??? The answer to that question is very simple and that is TALENT. Cindy Webb, our Vocal Director, has been working some magic in our Men’s Chorale and Vocal Ensemble and she has trained some amazing male voices. The three leads in our 2007 production of “1776” were only Juniors last year and now they are sensational Seniors and we are so happy to have them showcased in “Damn Yankees”.
Zak Schneider played Ben Franklin last year. Nathan Huey, who irritated the Congress as John Adams, has the lead role of baseball superstar, Joe Hardy. He has sold his soul to help his beloved Washington Senators beat the Yankees. Ben Huey, our Thomas Jefferson last year, is playing the lovable Coach of the Senators. He gets to sing my favorite song from the show “ You Gotta Have Heart”. Emily Schuster, who played Martha Jefferson in “1776”, has the role of Meg. She is Joe’s baseball widow. The role of Lola, the temptress” that the devil has called in to lure Joe away from his old life, is being played by Freshman, Dorsey Ziller. Her audition almost blew us out of the Blackbox. Just wait until you see this blonde bombshell light up the stage.
Other featured performers in “Damn Yankees” include Connor DeVoe, Billy Enderle, Jay Hingsbergen, Tyler Kuhlman, Joe Hils, Becca Reis, and Carrie Bachman.
To order tickets for the show just stop into the main office or call our Box Office at 741-2369. The show runs Nov. 6 – 8 at 8 pm and Sunday, Nov. 9 at 5 pm.
